Springkink FAQ: Prompting

I thought it was high time we had one of these as certain questions come up time and time again, and it'd be good to have one place with the answers. Feel free to comment with any further queries you have and I'll update the post. A separate post will be made for questions about claiming at a later date!

- Who can post prompts?
Anyone over the age of 18 with a Livejournal account.

- Are there any rules when posting prompts?
Only that you should be signed in and posting to the prompt-accepting post for that round. Prompts posted on any other entry will be rejected, as will anonymous prompts.

- What is the standard format for submitting a prompt?
A number (based on the number of days in the posting month, so between 1 to 30/31 as standard); a fandom, a pairing: A kink - a phrase/idea/lyric.
1; Sex Pistols, Yonekuni/Shiro: Claiming or establishing ownership (private or public; by gesture, word, or ritual; with sex; with a collar and leash; with scent-marking or by biting) - I could bring you so much pleasure.

- How many prompts can be submitted?
You can submit as many as you like. Currently there are no limits on the number of prompts you may submit.

- Do we accept Crossovers or RPF prompts?
At this moment in time, yes. We request these be tagged accordingly, however - e.g.
1. Crossover: Final Fantasy 7/Kingdom Hearts; Reno/Leon: handcuffs - we're a little more creative in our world.
5. RPF: Supernatural; Jared/Jensen: frottage - no-one's going to notice

- What happens to prompts if they are not fulfilled?
They will be reposted for one more round and then deleted from the prompts lists.

- Can prompts be withdrawn?
Yes. The writer of the prompt may withdraw their prompt at any time before claiming begins.

- Who can write/draw for a prompt?
Anyone over the age of 18 with a Livejournal account who is a member of the community. You cannot, however, claim your own prompts. More on this in the claims FAQ!

- Should prompts be posted in one comment or several? What happens if someone wants to post more prompts later?
You can comment as many times as you like within the claiming period and do not have to post all your prompts in one go. However, posting all your prompts in one or two comments does make life quite a lot easier for your mod ;).

- Can I advertise springkink in other communities/on my flist?
As long as the community's mods/your flist don't mind, feel free!

- What do the numbers in the prompts mean, and do they have to be in order?
Whatever number you put down next to your prompt will be the due date for posting fanfic/fanart for that prompt in the posting month. i.e. if you choose 11, your prompt will have and fanfic/fanart written/drawn for it posted on the 11th of the posting month. And I use an Excel spreadsheet to organise the prompts so no, the numbers don't have to be in order when you submit them.

I'm sorry, I feel stupid, but I still don't get the numbers. Do they determine when the responses will be posted? So if you choose 30 any responses will be posted on the 30th? Are there any guidelines? (Such as don't submit all your prompts for the same day or anything?)

Really sorry, first time participating. ^^;

The numbers do refer to the day of posting :). 1 - > 1st, 30 -> 30th, etch :).

There aren't any real guidelines with regards to what days to choose; it's just as good to randomise as to do one prompt a day or whatever you prefer.

About crossovers, what if the fandom itself is a crossover?

For example, the series The King of Fighters is basically a crossover of several fighting games, and so its characters appear in those other fighting games as well. For another example, the videogames Viewtiful Joe and Lucifer's call have character(s) from Devil May Cry as guest star(s).

Basically, if two fandoms actually canonically share the same characters to begin with, is it ok to simply list the fandoms without the "Crossover:"?
Apr. 8th, 2009 07:58 am (UTC)
If the characters canonically appear in a crossover game, you don't need to list 'Crossover'.

e.g. in Kingdom Hearts, Cid from Final Fantasy 7 is one of the characters in the game, so the prompt would be listed as:

Kingdom Hearts: Cid/Leon etc etc.

However, if you were using the crossover game's universe but including characters who weren't in the crossover game as well, (e.g. Vincent from Final Fantasy 7 isn't in Kingdom Hearts), then you still use the Crossover tag, e.g.

Crossover: Kingdom Hearts/Final Fantasy 7: Vincent/Riku etc etc

Hope that makes things clearer!

I'm sorry, I feel silly commenting about this here, but I attempted to join this community about three days ago, but I don't think it accepted my request. Is there a reqirement or did I pull a stupid somewhere?

If I'm reading correctly then I have to be a member before I can post any prompts, right? So sorry about this.

Edit: Before I can post TO any prompts, I mean. Darn LJ erasing my words!

Apologies I just realised I posted the prompts without joining the comm. I joined just a few minutes ago but I don't imagine I'll be accepted right away, will that be a problem?
Apr. 11th, 2009 11:33 pm (UTC)
Prompts can be submitted by anyone, members or otherwise; the joining is only necessary for when you're posting fic/fanart, and I'm trying to chase up getting memberships let through by animadri as I still have no control over posting access.

Fret thee not :)!

*stupidly trying to do the math* That's... what, 9:00 Eastern Standard Time? Got a bunch I need to come up with pithy quotes for still :B

What kind of limits are there on the type of pairings we can submit? I tried to look through but I didn't see an answer.
Apr. 12th, 2009 01:04 pm (UTC)
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?day=12&month=4&year=2009&hour=22&min=55&sec=0&p1=0 <- times around the world when the clock hits 23.55 in London tonight :).

As to the types of pairings, at the moment there aren't any real limits - I've seen everything from completely normal heterosexual pairings up to gay robot orgies and the occasional solo (masturbation) request. Pretty much everything goes :).

Thank you very much for all your work!

Currently beginning to sort through the prompts. Mmm. :)

*huge hugs*

You're welcome :). Man, I'm pooped, but at least the hard part is over! (Well, apart from starting work on the stories I fancy doing...)

I'm feeling like a pretty big idiot right now, but where exactly do I post prompts? I have a few ideas to throw out there and I've scoured the SpringKink section for a posting section, but I've come up with nada! Help?
Jan. 18th, 2010 12:14 am (UTC)
No problem hon - prompts are currently being accepted over here:

Nov. 3rd, 2010 02:56 pm (UTC)
I don't know if this is the rite place to post this but, I love this comm and am a big fan of it, however with over 4500 entries and 1000 tags it's a lil hard to follow. Many LJ meme's are opening delicious accounts to further organize their prompts and fills. for example the Hetalia kink meme has this...

It would make finding a specific kind of fill in a particular fandom alot easier to do. Perhaps Spring-Kink should take that into consideration

Re: Suggestion
That is an excellent idea! With 4500+ entries to take care of it may take a while but I do like a pet project and you are right, it would make life a lot easier for people. I'll have a word with animadri when I get the chance!
Nov. 20th, 2010 05:40 pm (UTC)
I've been tracking your community for a while but am still pretty confused and feel like an idiot for asking this (I'm not sure if I,m posting at the right place either, so sorry if I get it wrong!) but, do I need to be a member to claim a prompt? And what happens if I can't submit the fanfic on time despite the late entry because inspiration is being uncooperative?

Nov. 20th, 2010 10:12 pm (UTC)
Oh, don't worry hon <3, I'm not a full-time mod anymore but I don't mind answering general queries.

You don't have to be a member to claim a prompt, but you do have to be one to post to the community so I'd recommend joining (so long as you're over 18) - you don't have to be a watcher, just a member :).

And if you're a bit late, don't worry, we normally have a grace period up until the start of the next round for posting, and there's no penalty if you don't post - Springkink was deliberately set up as a low-stress challenge for people to blow off steam between the "don't post and you are BANNINATED FOREVER" challenges most everywhere else :).

Hey. I don't know where else to ask this, so...
The comm page says that requests would begin this season on May 4th, but I don't see any post for it. Is this still a go or not?
May. 10th, 2011 09:04 am (UTC)
Oh my god, that was for last year. *facepalm*

I take it the comm's dead, then?

I would appreciate it if you waited until you turned 18 to claim membership of the community; however, you're more than welcome to read any and all unlocked posts in the meantime!
Mar. 30th, 2012 05:57 pm (UTC)
wow, I hope this is going in the right place! (last post is 8/8/11!)

I have a submission for April 2, 2012. However, I will be out of town and want to know if it's okay to post early? And also can I post it to my journal and link it to the comm that way I can keep all the comments in one place? *is a noob to this comm, sorry!!*
Jun. 1st, 2012 01:07 am (UTC)
Oh man, I'm a dick, sorry for missing this! Just fyi for future rounds, it is always okay to post early if you have a good reason like being out of town - we just request that on your header for the fic you note the date that it was supposed to be posted on and why you're posting early.

You're also a-okay to post a link to your LJ as long as your LJ isn't friends-only for fic. (Friends only apart from fic is fine, we just want to make sure openID users and similar can read fic too!)
May. 31st, 2012 11:05 pm (UTC)
Is there something I'm missing here?
I'm still new to LJ and this community caught my eye, so you'll have to bear with me.

Is there a list of unclaimed prompts somewhere, where I could take and/or leave a prompt? Or if not, when is the next "round" for prompt submission? Because I'd really like to try my hand at writing for the community.

Re: Is there something I'm missing here?
I'm sorry hon, you *literally* just missed the end of this round (claiming and posting May 1st through May 31st)! As to when the next round is, I'm afraid you'll have to ask the other mods, but normally there's a three to four month break.

I'm essentially retired as a mod here, but don't mind popping in from time to time to give advice ^^.
