Title: The Method of Decision
Author/Artist: Cyr Anomaly, chaos_anomaly
Rating: PG
Warnings: N/A, it's just sparring.
Prompt: Kingdom Hearts, Cloud/Leon - weapons: "leather and steel"
Word count: 893
Summary: When two Alphas clash, this is what settles the matter.

A/N: No sex. Pretty gen and just barely making the Nov 4th deadline. Probably doesn't flow as nice as I would like but I blame that on exhaustion. Sorry. Unbeta'd.

Weapons drawn, they charged at each other.

Sunset over the crystal fissure and darkness looming, Leon slashed downward before dodging to the left. Cloud lunged after him but his sword struck air. Leon twisted his body, Revolver striking the space Cloud once stood. Cloud leapt back, gathering distance before running back toward Leon, First Tsurugi falling and rising in a combination of arcs and thrusts. Leon sidestepped the blond’s flurry, bringing his gunblade down on Cloud at the possible opening.

A clang rang out, broadsword against gunblade steel.

Leon smirked. Cloud lips twitched.

They pressed hard against each other, trying to force the other man back. Feet shifted but neither let go of their ground. Staring into each other’s eyes, the two swordsmen leapt back, breaking the hold. Still and silent, they studied the other. Leon tilted his head slightly. The brunet rushed once more at Cloud, swinging Revolver low, toward the blond’s feet.

Cloud flips over the brunet and strikes down with Tsurugi, intending to slice Leon into two. Leon rolled away at the last possible second, a grunt leaving his throat. Cloud smirked before thrusting again. Leon dodged once more before crouching low against the ground.

With a wider smirk, he sent out a Fire spell. Using Tsurugi, Cloud slices through the spell. His eyes widened when Leon suddenly appeared in front of him, Revolver already moving to take off his head. Cloud bent his body back, ducking under the swing, the gunblade managing to trim a few of his hairs.

“Thought we said no magic,” Cloud retorted, rolling to the side before jumping back toward Leon.

Leon grunted, using Revolver to block Tsurugi’s slice. “We did? Must have forgotten.”

“Tch.” Cloud lashed out with a kick which Leon deftly dodged, “You never forget.”

The brunet chuckled once before lunging at Cloud, feinting left. “Is that a compliment?”

Cloud retaliated by parrying Leon’s move. In a burst of speed, the blond attacked Leon with another combination of moves that drove the brunet back against the wall of the Crystal Fissure. Leon ducked at the last possible moment and Cloud barely moved Tsurugi into a defensive position in time for Leon’s own swift combo.

Their swords clashed, the sound echoed throughout the Fissure as they continue their spar in silence, concentrating more on besting the other than talk.

Each man leapt and dodged swiftly and gracefully, moving away from a potential fatal attack at the very last second. Leon stayed away from using magic and Cloud used his speed to press Leon further back, toward the wall or the edge. Unable to pin Leon, Cloud refrained from using his wing to fly for an aerial attack. Instead, he focused on keeping his feet on the ground and besting Leon in sheer swordsmanship.

During one pause, the two looked at each other and nodded briskly. One last attack to end it.

Cloud charged forward, swung left, turning on the heel of his foot. Leon parried and slashed down, body contorting enough to dodge any swing by sheer flexibility. The blond twisted out of the way of a too-close-for-comfort thrust. The brunet continued on, thrusting once more before twisting his wrist to change the angle of his sword’s arc. Cloud jumped back and flips over Leon. Leon stumbled, losing balance when his thrust meets air.

The younger swordsman took the chance and slashed down along Leon’s back.

“I win.” Cloud lowered Tsurugi, a smug grin on his face. “First blood.”

Leon sighed and looks over his shoulder, trying to see how much of his leather jacket is ruined. “Only this time. I’ll get you next time.”

Cloud walked forward, reaching out to touch the wound he inflicted. “You will. You always do.” As if apologizing, Cloud summoned enough magic inside him to heal the injury.

The brunet turns and grabs Cloud’s hand, stopping him in mid-cast. “Leave it. I’m fine.” Leon stared sternly before holstering Revolver. He gripped tighter on Cloud’s gloved hand. “Nothing some rest won’t heal.”

“And if I don’t want you to rest now?” Cloud lifted an eyebrow. “Don’t tell me you forgot what happens to the loser.”

“I never do,” Leon smirked, “And if you don’t want me rested, well, that’s fine too.”

Cloud smiled briefly before reaching up to grasp the back of Leon’s head, pulling the brunet down. “I’m going to enjoy this.”

“So am I.”

The blond inhaled the scent of steel and leather before taking Leon’s mouth in a kiss that could rival the ferocity of their spar. Cloud smiled against Leon’s lips.

Both of them knew that being defeated isn’t something to be ashamed of. Sometimes it could be as liberating as winning. Leon taught Cloud that once when he first asked Cloud to spar with him. The brunet taught Cloud that losing wasn’t the end of everything and it could be, in some cases, be as sweet as winning.

That is not to say they don’t give their all in each time they spar against each other. Winning or losing, it doesn’t matter but that doesn’t mean they make it easy. It was about the challenge, the thrill and adrenaline. A fight of dominance between two alphas, Leon once told the others. They lived most of their lives on the battlefield.

Using a spar to decide a matter was only natural for two warriors.

Yummy! Post-battle sex is awesome, and I love the idea that not only do they "switch off" who tops, but they use a quick fight to decide. :D
